Organizational Behavior / National and Organizational Culture

organizational culture, retrive from

At the beginning of this lecture, I didn’t know what to expect from it, because to tell you the true the first thing that comes into my mind when I think of an organization and it behavior is just a picture of a simple company and its interaction with other companies, but as I went on reading I realize that there are many factor surrounding this simply term. Organizational behavior is not the study of how organizations behave, but rather the study of individual behavior in an organizational setting, meaning the motor that runs the organization. THE EMPLOYEES AND ITS SURRONDINGS.

A happy employee means a happy company, this is why OB, allows the manager to study and view what to improve, what to enhance or what work behaviors to change in order for individuals and most importantly the organization as a whole, reach its goals. According to Kurt Lewin´s equation, "Behavior is a function of both the personal and the environment," this is why  in order to understand the true meaning of the equation we must analyze  human behavior that are divided in two: internal perspectives (factors inside the person and external perspective(factors outside the person.) and in the other hand analyze the organizational context , one formal organization ( the official, legitimate, and the most visible part of the system. and two, Informal Organization (the unofficial and less visible part of the system)

In today’s business world, organizations are constantly changing and improving in order to create better work environments and keep up with the globalization but many times organization cannot keep up with today’s changing world creating risk for the company and its employees. Too little change can lead to stagnation, decreasing profit & sales and too much change lead to chaos and demanding customers.
Now, looking at change as a customer view, it gives us the advantage to demand high quality products and services at all time, this is when TQM kicks in and organizations give total dedication to continuous improvement and to customer´s needs so their met and their expectations exceeded. but our Joey as a customer doesn’t stop there also the six sig focuses on high-performance system to execute business strategies that are customer-driven, emphasizes quantitative decision making, and places a priority on saving money.

It may sound easy for managers to give its customers all they need but in fact there are many factors that they are challenge with especially in today’s globalize world, one factor that is relevant, delicate but at the same time colorful and spicy is organizational culture. According to Schermerhorn, Hunt and Osborne (2005) stated that an organizational culture is "the system of shared actions, values, and beliefs that develops within an organization and guides the behavior of its members" (print version 582). organizational culture maybe  a challenge but a strong culture  could help an organization adapt to the environment, guide decicion making, provide identity to members, amplifies commitmment etc.

Why is managing organizational behavior in changing times challenging?

managing an organization behavior in todays world can´t be an  easy job, since in the twenty first centuary the worl we live in is constantly changing and improving forces  in the technological, global, and social or cultural environments stand out, it is very important for managers and organization to be able to keep up with the changes globalization brings them  so they wont be left behind. managers are being faced with factors they could have never imagine dealing with 10 years ago.

managing, is the process of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling an organization’s human, financial, material, and other resources to increase its effectiveness. on the other hand  manager is any person who supervises one or more than one subordinates. but can any person really be a manager.... i dont think so.one of the main issus managers face in changing times is understanding the cultural differences and how they influence organizational behavior in different countries. They must be aware that doing business with a Chineses client is going to be diferent than doing business with a Colombian cliente.  managers must be able to adapt to this enviroment, to the other culture and be able to lead its members.
