Organizational learning

Theories seeking to explain individual learning, organizational learning and the processes involved in this function have been around quite a while, aim guessing this is because is not an easy thing to understand. So let’s try to fit ourselves into their pants and try to decipher what leaning is.
Learning goes hand and hand with the word knowledge. “Knowledge is Power” (Francis Bacon), and learning is a process of acquiring knowledge or a skill. A little tricky to understand, but In general due to different perceptual processes people pick up different pieces of information from world with this resulting in learning styles and processes varying from one to another. Now let’s take a deeper look into theories to make a more theoretical understanding.

One classical theory that i like is the Operant Conditioning  by Burrhus Frederic Skinner, is pretty simple thing to understand , is  just Modifying behavior through the use of positive or negative consequences . let´s look at this video that pretty much sums up what Frederic explains (Positive reinforcement is getting rewarded e.g. Chocolate, toy etc, Negative reinforcement is removing something that would be a positive e.g. Well done, you don’t have to do the dishes anymore (taking the 'negative' thing away as a reward.)

Continuing wearing the pants and trying to understand another theory that can help us is the social learning theory by Albert Bandura, this theory explains how human behavior in terms of continuous reciprocal interaction between cognitive, behavioral, and environmental influences.
Blah blah blah blah……..what it means is that we learn through other people, by viewing other. This video can help us understand more. Warning. It might give you chills.

Now let’s take off the pants… what did we learn???. Learning is very important thing to do especially if we are in an organizational this would help the organization run, grow and prosper. And it is very important to be a good role model because people is constantly watching from one another and learning from one another.

To obtain and sustain competitive advantage, organizations must enhance their learning capability and must be able to learn better and faster from their successes and failures, from within and from outside (Marquardt, 1996.

According to Kavita Singh, what is the relationship between the learning organization and
organizational culture ?

She believes that the culture should be closely related to the environment do sd to enable the organization to benefit from the changes and remain competitive. To make the transition to a learning organization, organizations require a culture that supports and facilitates this transformation. Learning organization require a culture that supports ans facilitates learning.

Leadership .VS. Management

This video gives us the introduction to two terms that have created question in the business world : management and leader, this is because it can sound very familiar and often some individuals see these terms as synonyms and frequently use them interchangeably throughout phrases and sentences.  but the truth is that they are different. Now, the real question here is, what is the right thing to do inside a company….let’s take a minute and analyze each one.

Should we apply  management…..meaning

accomplishing activities and mastering routines(Bennis and Nanus  ) or unidirectional authority relationship (Rost) and even Management is responsible for maintaining order (kotter). Besides the textual meaning the management process requires to accomplish several components such as planning & budgeting, organizing and staffing, controlling & problem solving and  management responsibilities are generally much more task-oriented than some leadership responsibilities,

or should we be leaders………. Meaning

to influence others and create visions for change.( Bennis and Nanus) or (Rost) asserts that leadership is a multidirectional influence relation ship and (kotter) argues that leadership is responsible for producing change or movement.
Is obvious that leadership have several definitions, but there are specific factors that are central to the majority of these definitions. Leadership Is a process, that involves influences and occurs in a group context. and in the leadership process, the components a leader need to accomplish are setting organizational direction, aligning people with the direction via communication, motivating people to action, empowerment, gratify needs

BUT Zaleznik argues that management and leadership require different types of people.
I only know one thing and that is that a leader and a manager have their positive and negative attributives and combing them together is what makes them up. But what creates the perfect frankenstein man is to be like a Jing jang. Have alittle bit of both inside eachother.

Do you (or would you want to) work in an autocratic, democratic, or consultative work
environment? What might be the advantages and disadvantages of each?

i would like to work in a democratic enviroment because  this type of leadership style promotes the sharing of responsabilities, according to (Simosn Oates) here are positve ideas about democratic i shared with him 1.  Manager seeks consultation on all major issues and decisions. 2. Manager effectively delegate tasks to subordinates and give them full control and responsibility for those tasks. 3. Manager welcomes feedback on the results of intiatives and the work environment. 4. Manager encourages others to become leaders and be involved in leadership development. i dont find many flows with this work enviroment only that desicions can become boring becuase,  Seeking consultation over every decision can lead to a process so slow that it can cause opportunities to be missed, or hazards avoided too late

Dear Fellow Classmates

Podium. extracted from: http://es.toonpool.com/cartoons/podium_22283
Is interesting how everyone in class have different style of blogs, i really enjoyed doing this particularly blog entry because it gave me a chance to see how other people were  doing their blogs, check a little about their personality and the million ways to decorate the blog. I actually think i´m gonna do some remodeling to my blog, PIMP IT OUT. Because the first thing I check on a blog it´s for the decorations, the pictures, the videos, the background, the structure and of course the style of writing. I like the fact that some classmates took the time to make their blog pretty cool.
